Ground Zero Museum Workshop
I recently had the honor of meeting Gary Marlon Suson who started The Ground Zero Museum Workshop. Gary was the official photographer for the FDNY during the recovery efforts at Ground Zero. He spent six days per week and approximately 17 hours per day “living” at Ground Zero, where he documented every phase of the ‘Recovery’. His work was overseen by FDNY Chief of Department Daniel Nigro. He was allowed access to every area at Ground Zero and given strict guidelines, which included:
• Not to release any of the images until the Recovery was over
• Not to shoot images of human remains.
• To share future proceeds with 9/11 charities.
• Not to shoot images of human remains.
• To share future proceeds with 9/11 charities.
In addition, he was not salaried by anyone and had to take out bank loans in excess of $8000.00 in order to finish his documentation of the “Recovery. His powerful work and story can be experienced at his non for profit Ground Zero Museum Workshop. I recently went and was incredibly moved by his story and commitment to helping our city heal from the indelible wounds we incurred. This is a must do while in New York. Please watch the video below for more on Gary’s experience. To purchase tickets you can call Zerve at 212-209-3370 or go to http://www.groundzeromuseumworkshop.com/
